SURROGACY: A GREAT OPTION FOR FAMILIES STRUGGLING WITH INFERTILITY

Image: Pixabay

Unfortunately, infertility is a problem affecting more than a handful of Americans. It is a result of either of the partners not having the ability to sire or bear children due to one factor or a combination of them.

Children are a blessing, and most of us want them to ensure the continuity of family generations. However, when this seems like a distant reality, intended parents are likely to blame themselves, feel broken, ashamed, and hopeless. These feelings are detrimental to the overall health of intended parents, and they are likely to fall into depression or cause a rift in their relationship.

Surrogacy is the way

For the past few years, we have seen an influx in the number of California surrogacy clinics, and it is for good reason.

Surrogacy plays an integral role in allowing people with cultural diversity, different sexual orientations, and varying ages to have the opportunity to be parents.

Some of the people who benefit from surrogacy include:-

  • Couples who have problems conceiving a child
  • A mother who, for medical reasons, cannot carry a pregnancy.
  • Same-sex couples who want to start a family
  • Individuals who want a child but whereas the intended mother is on long-term medication for a chronic illness.
  • Couples who are not willing to go through the lengthy and tiresome adoption process.
  • Couples who have undergone trauma due to a past pregnancy and is not willing to go through it again

Surrogacy is an intense and extraordinary process for all intended parents. It is a process that makes the dreams of being a parent a reality.

So, what are the benefits of seeking surrogacy?

There are various benefits of opting for surrogacy.

Let us delve into specifics.

  • You finally realize your dreams of being a parent

Whether a man or woman, some people are just nurturing in nature. Unfortunately, the realizations that an intended parent cannot have children can be devastating and a dream crusher. To such individuals, surrogacy presents an opportunity for them to enjoy the journey of parenthood.

  • You have healthy children

Some people are born with hereditary diseases such as down syndrome, cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia, Huntington’s disease, and many more. These genetic disorders cause a myriad of complications and life-threatening situations.

So, when an intended parent is aware they have a genetic disorder, surrogacy is a great option to ensure their kids are healthy, live a quality life, and do not have to go through the problems they went through growing up.

  • Allows for biological relations

Unlike adoption, where neither of the parents is related to the child, surrogacy makes it possible for one partner or both partners to be biologically related to the child.

In this case, if both parents are fertile and it is only that the mother’s uterus cannot carry the baby full-term, both of them can use a surrogate to carry their embryo, allowing them to be the biological parents of the child.

On the other hand, if it is only one partner who has infertility problems, the other intended parent has an opportunity to be the biological parent through the use of donors.

  • Surrogacy has fewer restrictions as compared to adoption

Being unable to have a child of your own is stressful enough. Much to the joy of intended parents, surrogacy has fewer restrictions as compared to adoption.

Adoption is a complex process where the couples need to go for various interviews and have impromptu visits to their homes. It is also an invasion of privacy as you are required to show your financial statements, among other things.

  • It gives peace of mind

Fertility treatments are exhausting, time-consuming, and downright stressful. The numerous visits to the fertility doctors can put a strain on our mental and physical health. However, once you are settled on a surrogate, you can rest easy knowing that in a few months, you will be able to have and raise a child – your child.

How to Ensure You’re Drinking Enough Water During Pregnancy

Staying properly hydrated anytime is important, but during pregnancy, it becomes even more important as the heavy work your body is doing requires even more water, especially in the later trimesters. Its recommended that you drink eight to twelve glasses a day, but that doesn’t mean it has to be a chore or boring; there are plenty of alternatives and nifty tricks to help you stay hydrated and happy.

Image: Pixabay

Drink Frequently

Eight glasses may seem daunting when all placed next to one another, but just as with many things, slow and steady wins the race, and drinking small sips frequently makes it much easier to manage. Pro tip- carrying around a water bottle works as a physical reminder of what you need to drink and will help you build healthy habits. Using a water bottle with set times to drink also works to stop you from rushing at the end of the day. However, if you find you’re having indigestion problems, drink between meals rather than while eating, as drinking while eating can make it worse.

Listen to Your Body

Usually, when you are thirsty, you drink. However, by the time your body is telling you you’re thirsty you are already slightly dehydrated. Not only this but some of us don’t even recognize when we are thirsty, and occasionally mistake it for hunger. A good way to combat this is to drink before you eat and at regular intervals. Finding yourself too busy and distracted to remember is no longer a problem with apps now available to keep track for you. Another pro-tip- drinking a glass of water when you first wake up is an excellent habit to start. It starts your metabolism and replaces the fluids you have lost during sleep, helping you to start your day the right way.

Check What You Are Putting into Your Body

Everybody knows to avoid caffeine and alcohol during pregnancy, but did you know that tea contains a high level of caffeine too, including green tea. It’s recommended that you don’t exceed four cups of green tea, or two cups of instant coffee a day. Good news though: all non-alcoholic drinks count towards your fluid intake, that means smoothies, milk and fruit juices can shake up your drinking routine.

Nevertheless, plain water is the best choice and keeping it fresh and crisp and free from impurities is essential both for taste and hygiene. If you use your fridge for water, make sure to check and use a fridge water filter replacement to make sure your water is as fresh as it can get. If you use your tap, perhaps consider a water jug with a filter, ensuring fresh, clean water.

Ensuring hydration is essential for everyone but especially for pregnant women; the body is working so much harder than usual that extra fuel is needed. Creating easy and quick habits it’s best to start as early as possible; within a few weeks you’ll be hydrating without even thinking about it and feeling the benefits.

Why Having a Hobby Is Important for the Development of Your Child

Image: Pixabay

It can be terrifying to be a new parent; you are still unsure of the unspoken rules of parenthood and how you can help your child grow into a healthy young adult. You’re worried that anything seen as a distraction from school or potential future jobs might stray them away from a positive future.

How can you ensure that your child grows up healthy and happy in your care?

Hobbies are wonderful ways that your kids can play and learn while growing up. Here are the different ways that getting a hobby for your child can be beneficial for them.

Hobbies Help Your Child Socialize

Almost any hobby can be made into a fun group activity, no matter what your child is interested in. Placing them in a camp or extracurricular group that teaches them their favorite hobbies is great for encouraging social skills and making friends.

Even if your budget is a bit tight, there are still ways that you can get your child to involve themselves with others while doing their hobbies. Many libraries and other community centers are able to put on group activities relating to these hobbies and won’t charge you a dime!

A Hobby Could Grow Into a Profession

Hobbies are fantastic ways for your child to figure out their passions without stress. Many common hobbies have careers attached to them, and by helping your child down the path to success while performing their hobbies, you can encourage them to continue building their skills for the future.

Hobbies Bring Families Together

Not only can hobbies bring your child closer to other kids their age, but it can bring your family together as well. Sharing a common bond with your child through hobbies is wonderful, and you can create fun activities based on your hobbies for fun family nights. Whether you’re teaching your child how to draw or play an instrument or playing catch in the backyard, you can use hobbies to grow closer to your child and form a real connection with them.

They Can Build Confidence

School can be difficult for kids at times and leave them feeling hopeless if they struggle to learn. Having a hobby that they are good at can improve your child’s confidence and encourage them to continue learning even when things are hard.

Hobbies Can Improve Your Child’s Health

Sports are a great way to keep your kids active and cut down the risk of obesity and unhealthy habits. They can also help to improve your child’s posture and prepare them for life in the real world. They will be able to exercise regularly while having fun and using team-building exercises at the same time.

Of course, sports aren’t the only hobbies that can improve your child’s health. Hobbies can also improve the mental health of your child along with their physical health.

This is because hobbies provide fun outlets for children to express themselves without judgment. They can relieve their feelings of stress from their daily lives and enjoy their time as kids. Practicing a hobby is great for improving your child’s mood and letting their brains relax and refresh themselves. Remember- even kids can get stressed sometimes, and it’s your job to help them relax!

Hobbies Offer Diverse Learning Opportunities

While school is great at teaching kids about the necessities of life, there are certain things that school doesn’t teach. Practicing a variety of different hobbies is great for diversifying how and what your children learn and opening them up to new and exciting experiences!

For example, gym class may be wonderful for getting your child started in basic exercises and sports, but perhaps your child wants a greater challenge. You may want to sign them up for a more complicated sport such as Brazilian jiu jitsu for kids instead or involve them in swimming lessons if their school doesn’t have a pool.

How to Help Your Kids Find Hobbies

Now that you know how hobbies can benefit your child, it’s time to talk about how to find the right hobby. Make sure to keep these tips in mind as you search for your child’s next hobby!

Understand Your Child’s Likes and Dislikes

When searching for a hobby, you’ll want a clear idea of what your child enjoys or doesn’t like. That will give you a good understanding of what hobbies you may want to introduce them to and what to avoid. This is especially helpful while your child is young and may not be able to pick a hobby for themselves.

Allow Your Child to Quit

Your child may grow bored with a hobby or decide they don’t like it- that’s perfectly fine! If your child begins to dislike one of their hobbies, let them know that it’s ok to quit and try something else. That way, they will be able to find something they really do enjoy.

Don’t Force a Hobby

Parents usually have an idea of what they want for their child right from the start. However, when it comes to selecting hobbies, make sure that you don’t force your child into anything they really don’t want to do. Forcing a hobby onto your child may make them resentful and will end up being a waste of time and money. Even if they do grow to like the hobby, in the end, it’s still unfair on your child when you don’t let them pick their activities themselves.

Growing One Hobby at a Time

With a hobby to keep them happy, your child will have a productive and meaningful childhood full of fun and wonder! Give them the time to grow and enjoy their hobbies, no matter what they decide to try.

What was your favorite hobby as a child? Has your kid chosen a hobby that surprised you?

We’d love to hear your thoughts! Leave a comment down below with your experiences, and continue reading our blog for more helpful parenting advice.

Benefits of Practising Meditation During Pregnancy

Image: Freepik

Meditation has many benefits for our bodies and has been used as a wellness technique for thousands of years. If you are expecting, meditation can be a great way to connect with your baby and prepare you for your delivery. Sound interesting? In this article, we are going to explore the different benefits of practicing meditation during pregnancy. Let’s get started!

Decreases anxiety and depression

While feeling a little bit anxious during pregnancy is normal, too much can affect your mental wellbeing and have an impact on your baby. By practicing meditation, you can learn to control your different emotions and cast out any negative energy you may be feeling. It almost acts as a way to totally relax without having to worry about any unwanted thoughts.

Helps you when in labor

One of the most amazing benefits of practicing meditation during pregnancy is that it can potentially help you during labor. All the deep breathing can relax your central nervous system during childbirth and may even reduce your perception of pain/time spent in labor. Some people have been amazed by their experience, recommending it to all expecting mothers.

It can help with high blood pressure

High blood pressure can be a common symptom during pregnancy and can cause significant problems. Meditation has been proven to help relieve high blood pressure in a variety of studies, making it a great option. While you may still need to take medication, one individual named Jerome Smith found that he didn’t need such a high dosage when practicing the calming techniques.

You can learn more about yourself

Preparing for the birth of your child isn’t always easy, especially if you don’t know much about yourself in the process. Meditation can help you connect with your inner thoughts and learn more about who you are. You can even use various props to assist you. Check out how to use Buddhist prayer beads if you are interested in getting started.

Assists with fatigue and insomnia

Another common symptom to have when pregnant is either extreme fatigue or insomnia. Meditation has been shown to be beneficial in both of these departments, either allowing you to relax for sleep or improving productivity and boosting energy. If you have either of these issues, it can definitely be worth trying out.

It allows you to cope with pregnancy changes

Pregnancy changes our bodies in a number of different ways, and for some of us, that is difficult to comprehend. Stretch marks, bloating, and swollen feet are things that are a part of pregnancy, even though they aren’t the most flattering. Meditation allows you to have a more positive outlook on your body so that you aren’t so concerned about the changes.

And that’s it! These were the different benefits associated with meditation and pregnancy. It certainly is a great practice to get into, regardless of if you are expecting or not.

“The thing about meditation is: You become more and more you.”

Avoiding Common Credit Card Scams

Image: Pixabay

One memorable scene from The Office finds prankster Jim Halpert pushing desk-mate Dwight Schrute’s buttons by impersonating him. Dwight finally snaps: “Identity theft is not a joke, Jim. Millions of families suffer every year!”

Of course, a coworker wearing a similar outfit as you and adopting your vocal affections is a far cry from the decidedly unfunny reality of identity theft — in which a scammer gains access to your personal information and uses it for fraudulent ends.

Furthermore, Schrute wasn’t too far off when he said identity theft can affect many Americans each year. Credit card fraud, one particularly frustrating version of identity theft in which scammers steal credit card numbers in the hopes of running up charges scot-free, reached 270,000 reports in the U.S. in 2019 — doubling since 2017.

Shopping with credit is convenient and can help cardholders reap rewards, but it’s important to protect yourself with the knowledge of how to avoid credit card scams, too.

Know the Credit Card Scam Red Flags

Entities aiming to steal your credit card information may approach the endeavor any number of different ways. It pays to remain vigilant against them all.

According to NerdWallet, here are some common versions of credit card scams:

  • Charity scam: Masquerading as a charity, scammers will ask for your credit card info under the guise of using the funds to help others. Keep an eye out for scammers impersonating non-profit organizations or charities via phone or email.
  • Wi-Fi dupe: Scammers can set up fake Wi-Fi hotspots, asking users to “log in” with their credit card info. This gives crooks direct access to your data.
  • Interest rate con: Someone on the other end of the phone alleges they can help you lower your interest rates. All you have to do is hand over your personal info. A similar version involves scammers posing as representatives from credit counseling agencies, financial institutions or debt relief programs — all of which can be legitimate, but require research before divulging your financial information.
  • Overcharge con: Someone on the other end of the phone says you were overcharged for a recent purchase, and that they’d like to help you fix the situation. They may try to sell the scam by mentioning your name or other information to put you at ease.
  • ATM/Point-of-Sale skimming: Criminals install a device over ATM or cash register keypads to steal buyers’ card info.

The takeaway? Be very wary about handing over your financial information. Always vet the source before doing so, whether by phone or in writing. Be aware of your physical surroundings while making purchases, too.

Look Over Every Billing Statement

In today’s hyper-convenient world, it’s all too easy to “set and forget” autopay, or even to get in the habit of manually paying bills without looking thoroughly into the actual charges for which you’re paying.

Taking a few minutes every month to scan every itemized charge on your credit card statement can help you verify the legitimacy of all purchases listed. Investigate any odd charges for which you’re unable to account, then reach out to your card issuer as soon as possible to discuss it.

Credit card scams can happen to anyone, anytime. Case in point: London’s Ritz Hotel is currently dealing with a data breach likely stemming from scammers posing as staff members who called to “confirm” guests’ personal info — including payment details. One victim of this scam was asked by these supposed staff members to provide another source of payment, as her first credit card had allegedly been declined. When she did, the scammers tried to charge more than £1000 in retail merchandise.

Avoiding common credit card scams means knowing what they look like, safeguarding your payment info and actively monitoring your statements.

Prepare a Top Theme Birthday Party Your Kid Will Never Forget

Comic Birthday PartyI love celebrating birthdays and sometimes I have a hard time coming up with a theme for my kids unless they pick one out. Here are some fun birthday ideas that Alex wanted to share with you today.

Kids love themed birthday parties, especially if it has to do with their favorite fictional character, super hero or activity. In fact, picking a theme for the party makes it easier to plan the party around it. You can design decorations, plan activities and even create food that complements what the party is about. There are a variety of themes you can explore, and then design activities, games and crafts around it.

Picking A Theme

The party you are planning, depending on the age of your child, can revolve around airplanes, alphabets, baseball or basketball, ocean and beach, bubbles, butterflies, cats, circus or carnival, dinosaur, Dr. Seuss, fairy tale, Harry Potter, ice cream, Looney Tunes, music, medieval kings and queens, nature, nursery rhymes, pirates, Spongebob Squarepants etc. The list can go on. One of the most popular themes, especially with boys, is a Super Hero theme.

Older kids will love ’70s disco themes, jewelry making parties, makeover parties and other activity-based parties where they can get together with friends and create pretty new and wearable things. When planning a theme party, choose a subject, character or superhero that your child is excited by. You’re bound to make the party so memorable for him or her that you’ll probably find it hard to match at the next birthday!

Choosing Games And Activities

Once you’ve got the party theme chosen, you have to think about what you can get the kids to keep themselves occupied with. If you’re having a jewelry making party for older kids, you can have them bead safety pin jewelry. This is easy to do. All that you need to do is to slip seed beads into regular safety pins and create fun jewelry to wear and gift. You’ll find plenty of bead patterns online.

You could also play a game of Bingo with printable theme cards available online. You will find Bingo cards with animal motifs, Dr. Seuss motifs, bug motifs and other popular subjects that kids love.

A treasure hunt makes a great activity for an adventure birthday party for kids. To prepare the kids for it, get your child to write the invites in invisible ink. Maybe have them deliver the invites in a little bottle with instructions on a tag – “Iron Me”. Hang up world maps on a wall or make buntings out of photocopies off an Atlas. Have the kids come in costumes of boots, a hat, maybe a compass and a backpack. Create shelters on your yard out of palm fronds or sheets on branches. Hang plastic spiders and snakes where possible.

If you’re planning a ballet party for your little girl and her little girlfriends, then there could be plenty of pink and white satin and tulle ribbons. Activities could include giving the girls in tutus some basic ballet lessons, having them create their own jiffy shoes with stick on pearls, ribbons, small beads and sequins, glue and puff paints, or a game of dance and ‘freeze’ when the music stops.

Plan activities around other subjects in similar ways – pick activities that everyone can enjoy together, and offer prizes for little contests when you can.

Fancy Dress Parties

Fancy dress parties are always fun because kids can pick their favorite character and act them out. You can choose one story (cartoon or movie) or maybe even better, a broader theme (such as Disney party), so the kids could make their choice more easily.

Think pirate party, where kids dress up as pirates, or Harry Potter parties, where you’ll have little witches, wizards and even dragons coming up for cake.

Batman, Spiderman, Wonder Woman and any hero with a cape can show up at a Superhero Party and little girls in princess costumes, tiaras, queen outfits and plenty of glitter will glide across the yard at a Princess Party.

Plan themes, decorations and fancy food based on the type of fancy dress party you’re having. For instance, a pirate party is just the place to serve jelly boats and little biscuit wands or flower fairy cupcakes will be loved by the little kids in fairy costumes. If your kid is interested in historical films or history, go for a unique and fun theme like a Medieval or Renaissance party. They and their guests can dress up in elaborate gowns, shining armor armors, or glamorous suits and pretend to be lords and ladies from the Middle Ages.

Face painting is a fun activity at costume parties. A soldier can have his face camouflaged with green and brown paints, a soccer player can wear the colors of his favorite team or country on his face and a little girl dressed as a cat can have her face painted to look like one. You can make your own face paint at home, with cornstarch, cold cream, some cold water and food coloring.

The ideas are all there. Come up with some of your own as well. Get creative and start planning your child’s unforgettable birthday party. You’re bound to have as much fun planning it as the kids will have being a part of it on the big day!

Alex is a proud aunt of a 5-year-old girl and she loves playing all sorts of games with her. They’re both enjoying the summer together in Europe. We all know that an aunt is like a mum, only cooler 🙂

5 Strategies to Get Kids to Exercise

As parents, our main responsibility is to nurture our children to grow into healthy and respectful adults. Regardless of their age, children should be encouraged to exercise every day, which can help keep their weight in check, as well as reduce the risk of diseases like cancer later on in life.

Image: Pixabay

Getting your kids to be more physically active is easier said than done without the right resources and techniques behind you, so here are some effective strategies on how to encourage your children to exercise.

Be a Role Model

Children tend to follow their parents’ lead, so if you’re the type of person who lounges on the couch all day, you’re not setting the best example for your children. You can’t expect your kids to commit to exercise if you aren’t doing so yourself, so being a good role model and teaching them the importance of physical activity is key. Even if you struggle at first to get active, there are tons of health benefits that you will gain too. There are many reasons why kids need to move, so setting a good example from the start is crucial.

Make Exercise Fun

Kids need to be stimulated and entertained when exercising if you have any chance of them staying committed to it. There are lots of fun activities that your kids can try out, which will make them associate exercise with excitement. Whether you turn some music on and have a dance party or factor in plenty of walking during trips to the park or zoo, your kids are far more likely to stick with exercise if they enjoy it.

Use Competition as a Motivator

Lots of children love competition and having an end goal in place, so making contests between you and your kids to see who can do more jumping jacks or run faster will help them stay focused on exercising. Giving the winner a prize and rewarding them for their efforts will make your child more determined to carry on. There is technology that you can use like a pedometer, which tracks your child’s progress and results.

Limit Distractions

In the social media age we live in, many children know of or have their own account on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. While there are some benefits that social media can bring to your kids, if they’re the type to sit behind a screen all day, this will do them more harm than good. If you’re serious about getting your kids to do exercise, it’s important that you limit TV and computer time. Although your child may kick up a fuss initially, getting them interested in a hobby or sport will soon take their mind off things.

Involve the Whole Family

If you have an only child, they may be reluctant to exercise on their own. Inviting the whole family to partake in activities can be a great bonding experience and is one of the most successful strategies to change your child’s exercise habits.

Regular exercise has tons of health benefits for your kids, helping to improve their fitness levels, giving them an opportunity to socialize with others, as well as improve academic scores. If you have any concerns about your child’s health, encouraging physical activity can be a great way to improve their fitness.

Needs to Replenish the Kitchen for Kids Safety

Introduction

When a newborn arrives, several precautionary measures are important for you to take.  These measures keep varying as the child grows older. In such a situation it is best to adjust the furniture in your house to make it suitable for a kid. Kid safety measures become important as the baby grows older.

What Should You Do to Make Your Kitchen Safe for Your Kid?tanaphong-toochinda--dfO-LtZMzQ-unsplash.jpg

With the early years of childhood, comes a lot of energy and restlessness. The kid is also found running around the house or doing some kind of mischief. It becomes very difficult to manage the kid. A house has electrical appliances, sharp objects, and many dangerous devices. These need to be stored carefully and away from the reach of the kid.

Unplug and Switch Off

An electrical appliance may be dangerous for kids. They do not understand how the device works and may get easily electrocuted. Therefore, when you are not using your appliance make sure you unplug it. Pace the switchboard at a height that the kid cannot reach. This is an important part of the safety plan for kids.

Use Magnets

squared-one-uYtyhKO3ygU-unsplash.jpg

Make the kitchen an interesting place. Magnets are safe and do not pose any threat to a child. You can use magnets to hang up personalized baby blankets on the wall and pictures on the refrigerator. You can also get the kitchen safety rules for kids printed on a paper and stick it to the refrigerator with a magnet. This will help you kid to keep in mind the restrictions he or she must abide by.

Cover up the Corners

If your kitchen has a sharp corner, use some kind of cushion so protect our child. Your kid may be running around the kitchen and bangs against a sharp corner. Use a sponge or a pool noodle to cover the corners and make them softer. You can shop for some kid safety accessories online.

Light It Up

Use sufficient lights in your kitchen. Make sure every part of your kitchen is properly visible. If your child can see properly. He or she can avoid any potential danger. A dimly lit kitchen increases the chances of damaging or even hurting your kid. In fact, even adults can get hurt in dimly lit places.

Store It Away

A kitchen is a storage place for many dangerous things. It has sharp knives, glass plates, and match sticks. It is important to place these objects high on a counter or inside a cabinet, somewhere your child cannot reach. When they are home alone, safety for kids becomes even more crucial. So store the dangerous objects beyond your child’s reach.

Conclusion

Teach your kid the rules and regulations of the kitchen thoroughly and make kitchen safety worksheets for kids. The kitchen is one of the busiest places in the house, it is necessary to make it safe for kids to be in and around the kitchen.

What Causes Postpartum Hair Loss and What You Can Do to Cope with It

Having a baby is not only happy but also challenging as new moms have to take the courage to face various issues such as stretch marks, hair loss and depression. Of course, you are the happiest mom when you see the smile on the face of your cute baby. But lots of mothers are too busy taking care of baby to take good care of yourselves. You can’t get enough sleep, you lose hair, you can’t have your own time- these issues make you feel upset. Every mom should take good care of yourself and be brave to face challenges. Considering that postpartum hair loss is a huge challenge to be addressed by many mothers, this article aims to help moms identify the cause and provide postpartum hair loss solutions.

Is postpartum hair loss common?

According to the American Pregnancy Association, the percentage of women who suffer from hair loss after giving birth is 40-50%. New mothers do not need to panic if you see your hair falling out in clumps after giving birth. Do not freak out after seeing your hair shedding at a noticeable rate after childbirth. However, like postpartum depression, it does not occur to all women. As to when hair loss occurs and when normal hair growth returns, it also varies from woman to woman. In general, hair loss occurs 2-4 months after giving birth and normal hair growth returns 6-12 months after childbirth. So postpartum hair loss is completely normal! Moms should keep calm and wait patiently for your normal hair growth.

Why does hair loss occur after giving birth?

The main culprit is the change in hormone level during pregnancy and after childbirth. It’s very easy to understand the cause: estrogen and progesterone levels rise sharply during pregnancy which cause your hair to stay in the growth stage, but after giving birth, your hair starts the shedding process that was delayed during pregnancy. This process could be discouraging, but it is a temporary phenomenon.

What can moms do to deal with postpartum hair loss?

First of all, moms suffering from hair loss after childbirth should treat the issue calmly since it is normal. Don’t stress yourself out, and spend some time to make yourself get relaxed through meditation, running, going for a massage and various other ways. Secondly, you should minimize heat styling to avoid damage to your hair. Thirdly, it is essential to have a balanced and healthy diet so as to promote hair growth. If you suffer from hair loss after childbirth, whole grains, vegetables and fruits that are favorable for boosting hair growth should be chosen- e.g. eggs, avocados, buts, walnuts and carrots are the best foods for hair growth. Moreover, it may take months before your hair returns, so hairpieces such as hair toppers can be helpful for moms who expect instant volume.

Looking Good: How to Make Yourself More Attractive

Did you know that only 11% of girls in the world think they’re beautiful?

A lack of self-confidence doesn’t just affect girls. It also has a huge impact on boys, as well as men and women.

Whether you’ve always been single, are newly single, or just want to feel better about yourself, you might be wondering about how to make yourself more attractive.

If you’re struggling, then not to worry. Here are some tips on how to look more attractive!

Get Some Exercise

Most Americans are overweight or obese. For the most part, people find a high BMI unattractive. So one thing you can tackle first is your fitness.

Yes, exercise will help play a part in slimming down. But another important thing exercise does is make you feel good.

You see, whenever you go for a jog or swim, your body releases a chemical called endorphins. These are the “feel-good” hormones that can help boost your confidence.

So exercising will let you kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Not only will you better your fitness, but you’ll also improve your self-esteem.

Redo Your Wardrobe

Be honest: is your wardrobe outdated? Are there t-shirts in there from the ’80s?

Then it’s time to redo your wardrobe.

Now, you don’t have to be a fashionista to do this successfully. But you do have to have an open mind and attention to detail.

Whether you’re a man or a woman, you should ditch most of your t-shirts.

With some ingenuity, you can layer other garments with some tees to dress them up a little. But if you’re used to just throwing one on with jeans and calling it a day, then it’s time to stop.

You want to make yourself stand out above the crowd. Reach deep and ask yourself what your true style is.

For example, do you admire punk rock? Then get some pieces that reflect that style, such as a leather bracelet.

It’s always a good idea to add some bright colors to your wardrobe, so make sure you pick out some pieces that catch people’s eyes. Red is always a good choice.

Get a New Haircut

If you’ve had the same hairstyle for decades, then that’s a clear sign you need to switch it up. Ask your family and friends for some suggestions if you have no clue which direction you should go in.

Better yet, ask your hairdresser. They’ll have years of experience and training, which means they’ll be able to suggest something that’s stylish and bold. If you’re afraid of change, don’t be. Your hair will always grow back, so the worst-case scenario is you’ll have to hide out for a few weeks (just joking!).

In the best-case scenario, you’ll find a dashing new hairstyle that’ll love for years to come.

Smile More

If you don’t have great oral health, you might not want to smile much (more on this later). But we’re not asking you to smile with teeth; you can simply just stretch your lips out into a friendly smile.

When you do this, it makes you seem a lot more inviting than if you’re not smiling. This will enable others to see you as a safe and approachable person, which can make you seem more attractive as well.

Think about how many times you’ve seen a beautiful woman in the streets. She may have been stunning, but once you noticed her walking around with a scowl, her attractiveness level probably dropped off by quite a bit.

On the other hand, think about how you’ve met someone who seemed average in looks. But once you got to talking and saw how friendly they were, their attractiveness level shot up a bunch. Simply being more approachable and friendlier will help you look much more attractive!

Take Care of Your Teeth

Americans are very focused on having straight and white teeth. If yours aren’t, then you might not feel very good about your looks.

You can change all that with cosmetic dentistry. For instance, you can whiten your teeth, straighten them with Invisalign, and make them more uniform with things like veneers and dental implants.

When you can eat, talk, and smile with no worries, this will have a significant impact on your self-confidence. You’ll find yourself smiling and laughing without a care, which will show people just how attractive you can be.

Fix Your Posture

Like many others, you’re probably guilty of walking around with a slouch. You probably work at your computer hunched over all day.

It may not be something that noticeable to you, but it is to others. These things can give you a slovenly look, which most don’t find attractive.

Start sitting and standing up straight. Instead of looking at the ground when you’re walking about, look ahead.

Not only will this give you a better appearance, but it can also give you a mental boost. When you’re conscious about your posture, you’ll carry yourself with more confidence, which is attractive.

Know How to Make Yourself More Attractive

Now that you know how to make yourself more attractive, you should start putting these tips into practice.

Remember that you shouldn’t mainly do this to try and entice people to date you. Instead, you should be doing this to make yourself feel better and more confident about yourself.

When you can feel happy about who you are and how you look like, it’ll make a world of difference in your everyday life.

And not just with romantic interests too. You’ll find that your confidence and positive energy will have a tremendous impact on all relationships in your life!

Let Your Kids Choose Their Own Clothes

Today we have Emma to write a guest post for us. Emma is the CEO at Kimi Dog, the wholesale kids clothing company. She knows everything about children’s clothing.

Hi, I’m Emma, today I’m going to talk about is it okay to let our kids choose their clothes.

Clothes may not be important to children because they don’t care about them. They care more about toys and cartoons than what clothes to wear. But as they get older, they start to care about their clothes.

My son is five years old now, according to my personal experience, he has been consciously choosing his clothes since he was four years old. My husband and I had some debates recently about my son choosing his clothes. He thought it would take to long to let him choose his clothes.

My husband was brought up by his grandma for some reason, and he remembers that he had no choice in what to wear as a child because his grandmother couldn’t afford too many clothes. According to his own experience, he can’t understand that I let our son choose his clothes.

Years ago, kids didn’t have many choices, and their opinions were often ignored, parents made choices for them. However, I think giving kids a chance to make their own decision helps them express themselves. If you always suppress your kids’ thoughts and opinions, it will discourage them from expressing themselves. It can be detrimental to their education and work when they grow up. We need to respect children’s right to express themselves.

I discuss it with my son when he makes the wrong choice. For example, he likes wearing slippers and often refuses to wear sneakers. When we go hiking or climbing, I tell him that we should wear sneakers to protect our feet. It also gives me a chance to tell him, we have to choose different clothes for different occasions and activities.

My son likes to mix and match different styles of clothes. My brother left a hat at my house. My son loves this hat and often wears it. You may never dress your child in adult clothes, but he is creative when he mixes them. Sometimes, his clothing matching is unattractive. I think it doesn’t matter. We all want our kids to look cute, but I don’t think cute is as important as creative.

It was a good way for kids to practice dressing themselves by letting our kids choose their clothes. And it worked out well. When my son insisted on wearing what he wanted, I told him, you can select your clothes, but if you’re going to wear them, you have to put them on by yourself.

We all want our children to look cute, but I don’t think it’s important to be attractive. For my son, I’d rather see him learn to express themselves, be creative, and become more independent. But just dressing them up cute has nothing to do with these personalities.

Start from today, try to let your kids choose their clothes. If time-limited in the morning, you could let your kids choose their clothes before going to bed.

What to do When Someone in Your House Has COVID

Even as the lockdowns across the country are starting to decrease, the reality is that the spread of COVID-19 has impacted tens of thousands of families. If this modern-day scourge has not visited you and your family, then consider yourself lucky. However, this does not mean that it will not happen in the future, and with that in mind, here are some tips on what to do when someone in your house has COVID.

It does not matter if you or someone you love has a mild or severe case of COVID; the mere presence of the disease needs to be taken seriously. This is not only because of the ease in which the virus can spread but also because it is new to humans. As such, doctors are still working on treatment options as well as the much hoped for vaccine.

Another reason for taking the virus seriously is that some studies have found that it can spread quickly between family members or others who live in close quarters. This is even the case when someone displays mild symptoms of the disease. The best advice when someone is showing symptoms is to act as if your loved one and the rest of your family has been exposed to the virus.

Remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Even if you cannot get tested, you will want to take steps to keep everyone safe. This includes separating family members who might be sick, taking special care to any dishes, cups, and laundry items. Also, you will want to think about how to handle bathroom arrangements. Yes, this can get complicated, but there is a need to keep everyone apart as much as possible if COVID visits your home.

While the Washington State Department of Health, recommends that family members without symptoms should stay in another part of the home or a different place of residence, this might not always be possible. As such, you will want to take every step you can to keep family members separated – especially if you are living in an apartment. This can happen by setting aside one part of the apartment just for those with symptoms and by making sure precautions are taken when family members come in contact.

If sharing the bathroom is a challenge, then you want to make sure it is cleared every time that someone uses it. It does not matter if the person using the bathroom is suspected of having COVID or not; the risk that the disease can be passed on is too high and should be taken seriously.

When cleaning, the ideal mix is nine-parts water to one-part bleach as this will help to clean and disinfect all surfaces. Take this advice seriously as some studies have shown that the disease can be spread by fecal matter and other bodily fluids.

Also, if you have a pet, then you will want to keep the pet away from those suspected of having the disease. While the odds of your cat or dog contracting COVID are low, there have been cases of human-to-animal transmission as such. It is better to be safe than sorry.

In terms of treatment, Dr. Michael Hochman, M.D., associate professor of medicine at USC’s Keck School of Medicine, notes that you will want to give any suspected family member plenty of fluids and rest. Also, cold and flu medications can be useful. However, if symptoms get worse, then you will want to seek medical attention immediately.

This is because over-the-counter medications might not be effective against COVID, and some do have side effects if not safely used. Also, you might want to consider using a neti pot to help clear out the patient’s nasal passages. Regular temperature checks can also be useful as it will help to see if the disease is worsening.

For caregivers, you will always want to wear a mask and might even want to consider a face shield. On a side note, if your job means that you need to come in contact with the public and your employer is not masking masks and other protective items available, then you might want to reach out to California injury lawyers, (such as here, https://thebarnesfirm.com/), or to lawyers in your area to find out your rights.

The reason for wearing protective equipment, even cloth masks, is because the disease is primarily spread through the mucus membranes. Also, you will want to wear gloves whenever coming in contact with the patient or with something they have touched, such as dishes and glasses.

Remember to clean everything thoroughly, if possible, use a dishwasher, and sanitize all items after use. Also, remember to properly handle protective items when taking them off to limit the spread of the virus.

3 Common Myths About Distance Learning that Should be Dispelled

A lot of people had a pejorative view of distance learning not too long ago. Then came the advent of online colleges. Those have slowly gained some recognition over the years and are much more respected by the public, however, distance learning at the high school and elementary level is still seen as marginal.

Image: Pixabay

How ironic that what was considered marginal just a few months ago could suddenly become the new normal from now on. For parents who are still new to the concept, it might be hard to adapt to this new reality. Others might have tons of misconceptions about distance learning that may make them apprehensive. However, it’s important that they’re well informed so they can have a clearer view of what distance learning is exactly and set the right expectations for themselves and their children. Here are some of the most common myths about distance learning and the truth behind them.

Distance Classes have no Physical Activity Component

If you’re afraid that your child won’t be able to get enough activity and that you’ll have to organize physical ed yourself, know that there are ways to incorporate physical activity into distance learning. They often use virtual activity programs combined with kits to add a physical component to their classes. These programs sometimes focus solely on physical activity while others will have an academic element embedded into them. Others will teach skills like juggling, for instance. These allow students to stay active and allows them to work on additional skills in the process.

Interactions are Limited in Online Classes

A lot of people assume that there will be a barrier between the teacher and the student, and between students in online classes. In reality, the video conferencing tools that are used are very sophisticated and allow students to communicate freely and easily with others and their teaching staff. Some teachers even stated that they were able to learn more about their students through this format. This could also be a helping tool for students that might be shyer in a traditional class environment.

Online Courses are Light Versions or Regular Classes

This couldn’t be further from the truth! Online classes are just as rigorous as any other class and they surely aren’t easier. Those that follow the public school curriculum will teach to the same standard as any other school in the state. Not only that, but while some kids might like the idea of not having to go to school for a while, they might find it even more challenging to get to work with so many distractions around. So, in some cases, these classes may actually be more challenging, and some might need some time to become adapted to this new form of learning.

These are just some of the common myths about distance learning. Make sure that you learn as much as you can about what distance learning is and isn’t, and don’t hesitate to ask your school if you still have any concerns.

How to handle your child’s toothache?

Image: Pixabay

For kids, a toothache can be agonizing. All they feel is a constant pain that pulsates with no apparent solution. Toothaches are caused when the root of a tooth is irritated due to decay. Thus, many toothaches are really caused by diet-related issues, for example, drinking an excessive amount of soda, or eating high amounts of sugary foods. Peak Family Dental Care in Sedona has experience treating all types of dental problems, including toothaches. The best way to deal with toothaches is to prevent them from ever happening with good dental hygiene. However, there are still things you can do if a toothache does strike.

Here are a few things parents can do to cure their child’s toothache at home.

1.       To reduce swelling, put ice or a cold pack on your child’s cheek for 10 to 20 minutes. It will help numb the pain. Put a slim fabric between the ice and your child’s skin. Do not to give your child extremely hot, cold, or sweet food and beverages, as they may exacerbate the pain.

2.       If your dentist recommended antibiotics for your child, give them as directed by the doctor. Do not have your child quit taking them on the grounds that your child feels better. Your kid needs to take the full course of antibiotics. You may want to give your child painkillers, for example, ibuprofen (Advil) to lessen the agony and swelling. Use the medicines properly. Read and adhere to all guidelines on the label.

3.       Wash your kid’s mouth with lukewarm saltwater to help ease the pain. Older kids can do this without anyone’s help. Blend 5 g (1 teaspoon) of salt in 250 mL (8 liquid ounces) of water.

4.       Consult with your doctor about whether your child should use toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth. To decrease pain on contact with warm or cold temperatures or when brushing, have your kid brush with prescribed toothpaste consistently or rub a limited quantity of the paste on the delicate zone with a finger 2 or 3 times each day. Floss lightly between your kid’s teeth.

5.       Peppermint is a safe pain reliever and one of the yummiest toothache solutions for kids. A recently used peppermint teabag once permitted to cool can be put between the cheek and gums as it works as a pain-reducing pack. A couple of drops of peppermint oil on a cotton ball works just as effectively.

Temporary cures will only be a momentary solution for the pain, and visiting a dental specialist will be critical. On the chance that your child has a broken or chipped tooth, a filling might be required. Only your child’s dentist will be able to do this for you. In the event that a new tooth is determined to be pushing against a current tooth, this might require the removal of the old tooth.

Self-Care for Caregivers

Image: Pixabay

Every society is bound to have a vulnerable population. This population includes the elderly, the sick, and children. Caregivers are crucial to the community because they provide emotional, physical, and psychological help, among other kinds of assistance. However, caregivers often forget that they need to be in good emotional, physical, and mental support. Well, it is understandable that at times caregiving takes too much time and energy. Providing personal care for someone else is an act of compassion and kindness.

Nevertheless, you have to realize that it is crucial for you to take time to relax and do something for the good of you. While you may have a strong bond with the person you are caring for, devoting all your hours to him or her may put your emotional, physical, and psychological health at risk. With this in mind, review the benefits and tips of caring for yourself.

Tips for Self-Care

·       Manage Stress

It is no secret that caregiving is one of the most stressful jobs, especially when one is dealing with a senior or anyone having a chronic illness. Everyone experiences stress at some point, but caregivers have it rough. For instance, the impact of Alzheimer’s disease on family and caregivers is overwhelming. At some point, a caregiver can fall into depression, which can be equally harmful. Therefore, take those fifteen to thirty minutes to manage stress. This may include practicing yoga, listening to music, having a warm shower, jogging, having soothing drinks, and take a nap, to mention a few. Stress hormones are harmful as they are linked to several diseases. Hence, do not let stress defeat your mind or body.

·       Eat a Balanced Diet

It is tempting to go for fast food when you have a tight schedule. To avoid this, cook healthy meals and freeze some for later use. That way, you do not have to worry about a healthy diet when your hands are full. About preparing meals, you can create time during your free hours. It is all about discipline and organization. You do not have to be perfect, as you are likely to experience burnout at times. However, you can make the most out of your free time to ensure you do not subject your body to excess pressure when you should be resting.

·       Have Enough Sleep

Since you are a caregiver, you do understand the relationship between inadequate sleep and mental complications. Apart from managing stress and eating a balanced diet, it would be best if you had enough sleep. Following medical reports, adequate sleep allows time for the body to clear stress hormones and the brain to produce hormones that essential for your well-being. Suppose you find ways to manage stress but fail to get enough sleep, you will be doing zero work. Adequate sleep is a critical part of self-care as it checks your physical and mental health.

Benefits of Self-Care for Caregivers

·       You Become Better in Caregiving

To achieve any goal, you need to be in a healthy state. Caregiving is no exception. When it comes to caregiving, self-care is not only about you but also about the individual receiving care. Caregiving can be a full-time job, just like other careers. For that reason, you need energy and the right state of mind. Keep in mind that you are dealing with a vulnerable individual. Your health also matters because, in excellent condition, you provide high-quality care for the person who needs your services.

·       Self-Care Enhances Positivity

As a caregiver, self-care enhances the relationship you have with yourself. Honestly, the most important person in your life is you, and no situation can ever change that fact. Similarly, there is no other person who can take care of you better than yourself unless you are ill or disabled. When you find time for yourself, you become positive with everything that you do, which is an excellent way of achieving your goals. More so, you boost your confidence and self-esteem because you will naturally glow.

·       Improves Productivity

Although you may spend most of your time providing care, you have to remember that you also have other tasks to handle. It is undeniable that caregiving can be tiresome, but you can still get the most out of your free time. When you find time for self-care, your body automatically generates more energy. Thus, you will find it convenient when it comes to completing other crucial tasks.

There are numerous beneficial ways of caring for yourself as a caregiver. Some of the most important include stress management, excellent eating habits, and having sufficient sleep. Remember that self-care does not equate to selfishness. For you to love and care for others, you need to prioritize yourself first because your energy automatically directs towards others.

How You Can Help Your Children Reach Their Full Potential

Parenting doesn’t come with a manual but there are things you can do to help your children reach their full potential. If you want your children to flourish and grow into the best person they can be, here is what you can do to help.

Image: Pixabay

Allow Your Children to Have New Experiences

Whenever possible, expose your children to new experiences. The more they see and do, the more chances they have of finding their true calling and passion. Whether this is summer school, art classes or a new sports group, let your children have as many new experiences as they need to find their passion (within financial reach, of course). New experiences will not only allow them to grow intellectually, but they will also grow emotionally, as they interact with like-minded children.

Health Comes First

Your children’s health is of utmost importance and from day one you should be setting a prime example of how you want your children to grow up. Healthy children do better at school, are more likely to enjoy sports, and will have better mental wellbeing than those children who aren’t taught how to take care of their body and mind. This isn’t just about a healthy diet and exercise; your child’s mental health is just as important.

Encourage Independence

Children flourish best when they are allowed to make their own choices from an early age (within reason). Even from the age of diapers, you should be offering them the decision to choose their own clothing or to choose a book to read at night. These children will be strong-minded and independent, understanding their choices and learning from their mistakes. Even if you can see your child is making a decision that may lead to failure, take a step back to allow your children to understand that all actions have consequences: this will teach your children responsibility.

Teach Them That Hard Work Pays Off

Children that can understand and see the value of hard work will know how important sticking with school can be. Rather than focusing on grades and making your children fear failure, praise them for putting in the work and effort. Don’t just compliment your children if they get an A, showing appreciation for the hours of studying they put in the night before is enough to keep them motivated. Every child is different, and some may be more academic than others. Sending them to a school that also portrays this message will allow them to grow as a person, as well as academically. Visit visitation.net for more information on sending your children to a school that can support your children in reaching their full potential.

Every parent wants the best for their child and parenting can be a minefield at times. When we feel we are doing the right thing, it turns out to be the wrong thing. Following this guide can help you as a parent with supporting your children to reach their full potential.

4 Activities to Get Your Kids Moving

Keeping up with an energetic child is not always easy, especially if you don’t share the same level of energy with your children. The way to balance things out is by allowing children to remain active and engaged in a fun way.

Image: Pixabay

There are actually a lot of physical activities that can help your kids stay active and keep them moving, all while allowing you to keep up with them at all times. In this article, we are going to take a look at some activities to get your kids moving.

Afterschool Activities

If your children’s school has afterschool activities, now is the perfect time to consider them. There are plenty of programs to choose from, depending on the schools your kids go to, with some being more physical than others.

Well-known programs like Skillastics group activities are perfect for keeping your kids moving in a healthy and productive way. Your children will not only remain active but also have the opportunity to develop certain skills while interacting with their friends.

Long Walks

Physical activity doesn’t have to be a high-intensity one. In fact, a lot of low-intensity physical activities are fun to share with the kids. One example is taking a long walk around the neighborhood. It is the kind of activity that you can do together without complex preparations.

If you have dogs, walking the dog as a routine is also a good idea. The kids can learn about their environment and taking responsibility while you share a fun activity together. A 30-minute walk is often more than enough to bring your children’s energy level down.

Simple Sports

We often associate sports with additional equipment and a specialized field, when in reality, there are a lot of sports you can do easily. Playing catch, for instance, can be done with a rubber ball in the backyard.

The same is true with other sports like basketball and soccer. With the latter, you can simply create a small goalpost and have fun trying to block your children from scoring a goal. It is certainly fun enough to keep them entertained for a long time.

Dance Party

Another exciting thing to do to keep the children moving is dancing. This too is a simple thing to do, plus there are multiple ways to make it more fun. For instance, you can turn off the light and put on some disco lighting to set the mood.

There are video games based on dancing too, which makes this particular activity easier to adopt. Put on some music and have a lot of fun dancing with the children. Once again, a 30-to-60-minute session is more than enough to bring the energy level of your children down.

As an added bonus, you can turn dancing into an entire party. Invite other children and let your kids have a lot of fun hosting their own dance party.

As you can see, these activities are easy to try. They are certainly fun enough to keep your kids moving and allow them to stay active – and healthy – for even longer.

Helping Those in Need: 5 Reasons to Become an Egg Donor

Image: Pixabay

Couples who want to become parents and cannot on their own approach fertility specialists. When the fertility change is the woman’s inability to produce viable eggs, it is necessary for them to use an egg donor. Reviewing 5 reasons to become an egg donor helps women determine if the choice is right for them and how they could help others.

1. Making It Possible for Others to Become Parents

Making it possible for others to become parents gives the individual greater rewards and enables them to give back to others. For many couples, their fertility issues originate from female reproductive problems that prevent women from conceiving on their own. Becoming an egg donor enables women to help other women and couples become parents without facing yet another issue. Women who want to donor their eggs and help others can review their options at mcrmfertility.com now.

2. Making a Lasting Impact on the World

Making a lasting impact on the world gives the individual a sense of purpose. Women throughout the world face fertility challenges that limit their ability to become a mother. If more women donor their eggs, others have a better chance of conceiving a child and becoming a mother. Women who make the choice to donor their eggs are making a positive impact on the world and make eggs donations more accessible to all women who want to become a mother. Reviewing this opportunity could give a woman the purpose in life she so desperately wants and gives her a chance to make a difference in the lives of others.

3. Financial Payouts for Helping Others

Egg donors receive compensation for their donations and helping others with reproductive and fertility issues. According to statistics, it is possible for a woman to make up to $8,000 from donating their eggs to other women. The donation process is confidential, and the woman doesn’t have to worry about anyone contacting her later in life. Laws prevent women from getting too much personal information about their donor, and women who donate eggs don’t have any legal claims over the child that is produced from their donation.

4. Increasing the Supply of Viable Eggs

Increasing the supply of viable eggs improves the chances that more women will be able to become mothers and have almost unlimited access to viable eggs. Too often, donors don’t provide eggs until women need them. With egg donation, women will have more options for trying to conceive a child. More eggs will be accessible if more women make the choice to donate.

5. Making It More Affordable for Couples to Become Parents

Making it more affordable for couples to become parents increases the odds that more couples can use in vitro to have a baby. An increase in egg donations can lower the cost of the fertility treatments and keep the cost of finding a donor lower than average. Women who want to become egg donors can help couples who are facing serious fertility challenges.

Couples who need egg donations to turn to donors for help. Egg donors provide a supply of eggs for fertility clinics and help women become mothers. The donations generate generous compensation for the egg donor and give more couples a real chance to become parents. Reviewing 5 reasons to become an egg donor shows women throughout the world how they can help others and find a real purpose in their lives.

Important Milestones in your Life: Checking your Health Once you Hit 60 and Beyond

Image: Pixabay

As we get older, our bodies start to change and our health starts to shift. We may start to notice the telltale signs of getting older in wrinkles and aches and pains, but some of the signs of aging start to show up in ways that might be harder to spot. Unlike when you were younger, waiting until you notice an issue may mean the damage has already been done. This is why, as you age, regular medical testing is key to staying healthy. Being proactive about your health means knowing the key places you’re likely to face issues.

Here are some of the main tests you should focus on getting once you hit 60:

Blood pressure tests

Hypertension is known as the “silent killer” because of how asymptomatic the presentation can be. Having elevated blood pressure can increase your risk of stroke and heart attack. With one in every three adults suffering from elevated blood pressure, it’s important to have your blood pressure checked at least once every three years.

Colorectal cancer exams

It might not be the most pleasant thing to consider, but a colonoscopy can be a lifesaving tool. A colonoscopy allows a doctor to scan your colon using a camera looking for cancerous polyps. These abnormal growths can lead to colorectal cancer. Once you turn 50, you should be getting a colonoscopy every ten years, more in you have a family history of colorectal cancer. If caught early, this type of cancer is highly treatable – so don’t be shy!

Hearing loss

Hearing commonly declines with age, with many people finding that their hearing drops noticeably after 60. Higher frequencies were lost first, but over time it becomes common for other frequencies to go. It can be hard to notice hearing loss since our brains will learn to cope. However, regular testing will flag a loss of hearing, and the wide assortment of hearing aid devices can restore your hearing with ease.

Eye exams

Ideally, you should be having regular eye exams throughout your life. However, once you turn 40, you should get a baseline screening to see where your eyes are at. From there, your optometrist will tell you what further testing or treatment you may need. As you age, eyesight loss is common, but so is the risk of cataracts and glaucoma.

Dental exams

As you age, dental health becomes even more important. Many common medications you may take regularly as you grow older can negatively damage tooth health. Even over-the-counter medications like antihistamines and diuretics can negatively affect oral health. Other medications, especially those that cause chronic dry mouth, can cause tooth rot and gum disease. To avoid this, drink lots of water, brush and floss your teeth twice a day, and be sure to make annual visits to your dentist.

Blood tests for lipids

High cholesterol is a common issue in older adults. Performing a blood test for lipids can help your doctor gauge your cholesterol and triglyceride levels. If it measures high, your doctor may recommend a better diet, some changes in your lifestyle or medications to reduce your levels. This will help lower your risk of a heart attack or stroke.
