GhostBed Unboxing: a Twin Mattress Review

I received a GhostBed mattress by Nature’s Sleep to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links.

Nearly two years ago, we transitioned Bear from a crib to a toddler bed. I knew the day would come that she would grow too tall for her crib mattress, and that bittersweet day is here. A few years ago, I won a twin platform bed from a survey I filled out (yeah, turns out people actually win those things!), so we assembled it, moved it into her room, and started unboxing her new twin mattress.

The GhostBed arrived in a small-ish box (small for a “typical” mattress box) and I was honestly shocked that there was supposedly a mattress in there.

Opening Ghost Bed Box

When we opened the box and dumped out the twin mattress, I was floored by how efficiently this thing was packaged! Take a look in the video below.

When we first unboxed it, it had a bit of a factory odor. I wasn’t too concerned since the GhostBed is not manufactured with any harmful chemicals and all materials used are CertiPur-US approved. I placed it on the deck for a couple of hours, which substantially reduced the scent.

Why the GhostBed?

There were a few key features that were important to me when selecting a mattress for my daughter – it had to be made in the USA, coil-free and comfortable. The GhostBed met all these criteria. It’s made in America of aerated latex foam and gel memory foam, which means no coils, and the plush viscose/polyester mattress top is super soft and comfy.

While the bed comes with a machine washable cover that zips off, I added a waterproof mattress cover (also made in the USA) since nighttime potty training is still in progress and I don’t want to ruin the mattress.

Once the bed was unboxed, we moved it upstairs and placed it on top of her platform bed frame. At 11″ in height, it fit perfectly, no mattress foundation needed. We added an adorable pink heart duvet cover and rainbow sheets to the twin bed to update her “big girl” room.

She’s always been a great sleeper, but I expected a few nights of transition time. I was pleasantly surprised that her first night sleep on the GhostBed was no different than her last night sleep on her crib mattress, just more comfortable and more appropriately sized. I’m looking forward to more great nights of sleep (and snuggle time since I can finally fit in bed with her!).
