I am a Joovy Mom and partnered with Joovy for the following post. I received a Joovy Caboose Ultralight Graphite double stroller and rear seat at no cost to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links.
Finding that perfect double stroller can be a challenge. When I first found out I was pregnant with my son, I knew that I would need to find a way to transport 2 little ones on walks and trips to the mall. I considered the Joovy Caboose, but at the time, there was only a rear sit/stand option, and my daughter was only 2 at the time of my son’s birth, so that wouldn’t work. It just wasn’t practical for the ages of my children…until now.
Joovy recently introduced a rear seat for their signature Caboose stroller AND updated the stroller itself coming out with a ultralight version, making it 21% lighter than the Caboose Graphite, adding an included parent organizer, expanding the canopy (now with a rear canopy extension) and adding sealed ball bearing wheels.
Now this was the version for us!
When the Joovy Caboose Ultralight Graphite Stroller and Caboose Rear Seat arrived on our doorstep, they did so it two separate boxes. I assembled the stroller the following day.
In the box:
- Stroller
- Canopy
- Rear axle
- 2 rear wheels
- 2 front wheels
- Tray
- Parent organizer
- Infant car seat adaptor (compatible with these car seat models)
- Assembly hardware
- Manual (can be downloaded here)
It should have been an easy 20 minute assembly, but for some reason, I overlooked the fact that the rear wheel axle needed to be threaded through the holes (yes, there are holes). I kept trying to force them through the wheel break grooves, and, after much cussing, when I was at my wits end about to call Customer Service, I realized what I was doing wrong. Low and behold, I located the holes, threaded the axle and moved on to replacing the seat bench pad with the Caboose Rear Seat.
Adding the Caboose Rear Seat was a breeze. We just removed the rear bench seat pad and straps from the stroller and slipped the rear seat over the plastic seat in its place. We followed the additional instructions to secure the seat, and we were rolling.
This is our set up for now – 3-year-old Bear in the front seat with the tray (she doesn’t like to stand and stroll) and 1-year-old Little Man in the rear (with the added Caboose Rear Seat). The rear seat was easy to add to the stroller and perfect for kids under 2.5 years old, at which time we can remove it and he can stand. It’s a full-size padded seat that reclines!
In my opinion, if your second child is between 6 months and 2.5 years old, the Caboose Ultralight Graphite + Caboose Rear Seat is the way to go. Also, it doesn’t need to be removed when folding the stroller!
Speaking of folding, this stroller is one of the easiest to fold (although I wish it stood upright once folded, either on its wheels or on its side for garage storage).
Due to its compact fold, it fits nicely in the trunk of my sedan or SUV.
I love that this stroller comes with a tray. I honestly don’t know how we’ve gone so long without a stroller with a tray – brilliant! My only caveat is that it doesn’t fit most of our sippy cups, so we are restricted to use our Tupperware cups when strolling with this stroller.
The front seat has an adjustable footrest, which is great for babies and younger toddlers, but it has a lip at the bottom and my daughter’s legs just hang over the footrest, hitting the lip. I would love to see Joovy lengthen the footrest a bit to be more conducive for taller toddlers, especially now that the older child can be seated in the front seat when the rear seat is added for the younger sibling.
The storage basket is large enough to hold a day’s worth of mall purchases, but the shopping bags yet kicked and smashed because it’s located under my son’s feet since we added the rear seat. It’s also not the easiest to access when he’s seated.
While at the mall, I put it to my usual test – how does it turn in Victoria’s Secret? That place has the tightest areas, between bra drawers and more bra drawers. So to determine its maneuverability and turning radius, I ventured to VS. It turned on a dime, effortlessly.
I love that this model comes with a parent organizer. That is my biggest beef with strollers. They are already a big investment, so the less “add-ons” you need to purchase, the better. The parent organizer has a zipper pouch, 2 pockets for bottled drinks (coffee cups are too prone to spillage with neoprene organizers), and a pouch to store the rear canopy shade.
Just as our Joovy Too Qool, I love the citron color (although the Caboose has a sleek Graphite-colored aluminum frame). It’s dark enough not to show too many milk spills, but light enough for strolling in warm weather. This color adds a touch of style for mom and makes the stroller look more expensive that its $259 price point.
The Joovy Caboose Rear Seat (sold separately for $70) is compatible with the Caboose Graphite, Caboose Ultralight Graphite and the Big Caboose Graphite.
