Frozen Party Ideas for a Little Princess – Decor, Party Food, and Activities

This post about Frozen theme birthday party features items from Oriental Trading Company, which I received at no cost, and affiliate links.

It’s hard enough keeping up with the Jones’ Pinterest these days, especially when it comes to kids birthday parties. Last year, we swung the completely opposite of a Pinterest-worthy party for Bear’s third birthday, getting the balloons last minute and picking up an ice cream cake from the freezer section of the grocery store. And guess what, she loved it!

However, this year, since her vocabulary has quadrupled since her Hello Kitty party and her interests have really blossomed, she had quite a few more requests – down to a castle cake that looked like the ice castle from Frozen (so note to self, save my money/don’t go crazy throwing elaborate birthday parties until Little Man is at least 4 years old when he starts getting really excited about his birthday party).

Bear has been all about Frozen late. That is soooo 2013, you say? Yea, me too, but this little girl was only 1 at that time, so Frozen is all new to her. I’m hoping the result of her Frozen themed birthday party is that Let it Go can only have a place on YouTube and not on my tube from now on. I think she may actually be all Frozened-out.

And this is how we did it.

Frozen Party Decor

Frozen Party Plates - Frozen Theme Kids Birthday Party

I found Frozen party plates from Oriental Trading Company along with some centerpieces, confetti, cups, and other decor. It was the perfect one-stop shop for the our Frozen party decorations.

We had a plethora of Frozen stuff all around our house, from toys to posters, so we relocated those items downstairs for the party. Whenever you can leverage items you already own for a party, do so!

I displayed the party favors nearby to add to the decor and to remind everyone myself to take one.

Initially, I wanted to create these pretzel bites, but that was an epic fail. As a last stitch effort, I laid out the pretzels (for a third time), drizzled melted wafers over the pretzels and then sprinkled Sixlets and silver sprinkles over the top. I was actually really pleased by the result – Frost Bites!

Staying on theme, we put out a veggie tray, which contained Olaf’s noses (baby carrots) and made marshmallow wands, similar to these created by Carrie Dahlin. We also added adorable labels (free printable from Like Mom and Apple Pie) to the water bottles that said melted snow (oh, poor Olaf).

Frozen Party Activities

This was a first year I actually made an itinerary. The first hour was reserved for food and mingling, the second for Bear’s surprise – an Elsa appearance! – and the third was for the pinata and gifts. I was actually put at ease having an actual schedule to try to stick to.

I found a cute flip flop fabric tutorial on the blog Running with Glitter, which I tried my best to recreate. I bought a handful of flip flops from Old Navy during their annual $1 flip flop sale for the girls (I opted for size 10/11 for 4-year-old girls). I ordered a variety of 1/2 -yard fabric from Fat Quarter Shop and cut scrap strips with pinking shears. I placed 17 strips in a plastic baggie for each girl, making them their own little craft bags. During the party, moms and dads helped the girls loop the fabric around their flip flops to make fun Frozen sandals!

Memories

I’d say the two most memorable part of the party was when Queen Elsa stopped by. The girls were shocked. Seeing Bear’s face light up like that was worth every single penny (and countless hours spent planning).

Ironically, or not, Queen Elsa brought snow with her on a hot July day. As she was braiding the girls’ hair, a hail storm began and last for just the length of the party – no joke!

This Frozen birthday party was by far the best birthday party to date. I had a ton of fun planning it, especially because Bear was SO excited about every single detail, especially the tiered ice castle birthday cake.
