I love living in the Midwest, especially in the fall. Picking apples, hayrides, fall festivals, and, one of my favorites, HalloWeekends. Now in it’s 20th year, HalloWeekends runs September through October at the roller coaster capital of the country Cedar Point. It’s a place where kids (and adults, but haunted houses aren’t my thing) can partake in tons of Halloween fun like trick-or-treating, pumpkin painting, and a Monster Mash dance party.
We took the kids to Cedar Point for HalloWeekends this weekend, which is one of Bear’s favorite fall destinations. She may only be 4 years old, but she’s now been to Cedar Point three times for HalloWeekends – once when she was just a baby and another time when Little Man was just born.
Our first stop was Trick-or-Treat with the Peanuts in Kiddy Kingdom. We brought the kids’ Halloween costumes from Oriental Trading Company so they could suit up for their candy mission. When I found these Batman costumes at OTC, I knew the kids would go nuts. Little Man can’t stop obsessing over Batman “Bah-mahn” ever since he saw a pair of Batman Crocs a few weeks ago. He somehow found his size, put them on, and then wouldn’t take them off. So I ended up buying them and having the sales associate scan his feet- no joke.
Bear loves everything that he’s into, and vice versa, so Batman was the winning theme this year. Last year they went as a duo as well – Snoopy and Woodstock (go figure that was the only year we didn’t head up to Cedar Point for HalloWeekends).
After trick-or-treat, we headed over to Camp Snoopy. Since we spent the majority of our time over there, and didn’t get to the park until about 1pm, we missed the The Great Pumpkin Parade with Snoopy and the Peanuts™ characters at 4pm. I was so bummed, but we were in line for Bear’s favorite coaster, the Woodstock Express, and this time Little Man got to ride it too! But while in line, I captured this special sibling moment.
After Little Man learned a little something called “patiently waiting,” both kids were getting antsy. Cedar Point was PACKED this weekend (food lines were unbelievably long), so we loaded up the Batmobile, busted out the packed snacks from the mini cooler and took a walk around the park to try to avoid the no-nap witching hour.
After sneaking a cup of pay-by-the-ounce frozen yogurt from the kids and walking through Frontier Town, we ended up back at Kiddy Kingdom just in time for storytime, where we saw the celebrity himself – Snoopy.
We ended the day picking up a mini Sally from the gift shop and picking out a mini pumpkin (the kids got a free pumpkin token during their trick-or-treat for the little pumpkin patch).

HalloWeekends is open every Friday night from 6 p.m. to midnight, Saturdays from 11 a.m. to midnight and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. through October 30. Activities at The Great Pumpkin Fest are available Saturdays & Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
A visit to HalloWeekends can be free with the purchase of a 2017 Season Pass. All new 2017 Season and Platinum Passes include one free fall visit valid any single operating day through October 30. Plus, additional visits in the fall are just $14.99 each for all new 2017 Season Passholders.
